Graduate student Allie McKinnon gives presentation on the use of false evidence in police interrogations

Second Year graduate student Allie McKinnon gave a presentation on Friday, February 26th. The presentation, entitled "The power of a lie: An examination of the use of false evidence during interrogations," summarized Allie’s ongoing thesis research. According to this research, the use of false evidence during police interrogations- something that is entirely legal provided props are not used- can cause people to confess even when they are not guilty. Although Allie’s research is ongoing, preliminary results suggest that even vague threats of evidence can have this effect. Allie is mentored by Dr. Twila Wingrove.
