Graduate student Ian Jacobs gives presentation on occasion setters in classical conditioning

Second year graduate student Ian Jacobs gave a presentation on campus on Friday, February 19th. The presentation, entitled “Properties of simultaneous discrete occasion setters,” summarized the results of research Ian conducted for his master’s thesis. Ian’s research investigates the impact of “occasion setters” on classical conditioning effects. Occasion setters, according to Ian, are stimuli that modify classical conditioning effects by acting directly on the association between conditioning stimuli, rather than on the conditioning stimuli themselves. Ian is mentored by Dr. Jim Denniston.
